MVP – Getting an advisor onboard

September 28th, 2008

Starting with a feeling “We would soon conquer the world” is nice, but we needed someone to put sanity into our actions to build this company. We had been looking up to the awesome entrepreneurs in our past companies till now (Vinay, Niranjan, Harsh, Rohit, Amit from FlightRaja; Ganapathy from MyDuniya, Sourabh from ngpay), and now it was time for us to be like those awesome people and live the dream. We had already got our first B2B customer Dr. Shikha Sharma in Delhi and now it was time to execute the project well.

We had been having discussions on the need of an advisor for our company, but weren’t actively approaching people for that. I and Himanshu were in Delhi to setup the operations at Dr. Shikha Sharma’s Clinic when Varun read an interesting post on contentSutra and then we found out that MVP team was coming to Proto too. We all discussed about them over phone and decided to approach them after Sameer’s talk on 18th July. As expected they were surrounded by people after Sameer’s talk, and we didn’t want to be just someone in the crowd. I met Nandini on 19th July and we talked about LifeMojo and MVP.

They had a few questions in the form of a questionnaire that they wanted us to answer. From our “Art of the Start Day” (The day we all read “The Art of the Start” by Guy Kawasaki, and followed all the tips mentioned in there) we had answers to most of these questions ready. One question that we had the most fun answering was “The story behind the venture”. We wanted to give them the true story, but the story was funny. We wanted to sound serious and professional, but we decided to have a little fun, and gave them my weight loss story.

Cutting the long story short, we saw a huge value that the MVP team would bring in and hopefully they felt the same about us. We got selected as part of their batch 2 companies and we are happy about it!

Why we started LifeMojo - Personal Itch & Huge Market

September 18th, 2008

One fine morning in July 2007 while working in office, Namit got a call from one of his father’s friend, asking him to have a look at how can technology / IT help one of the finest Health Expert in North India. He was anyways going to Delhi for the weekend, so decided to have a look. Apart from contributing as much as he could on the technology front, he couldn’t help noticing the scale of the business ! He was amazed by the number of people that consult Nutritionists for weight loss and other lifestyle related health problems. He realized he should soon do something about his off the charts weight… (This was the first wake up call !)

After a few days, we (the team) saw Adnan Sami (yes the singer) on TV as one of the Miss India Judges. He had lost around 109 Kgs !!! (This was the second wake up call for Namit!)

It took him around 5-7 Days to figure out the right(atleast he thought so) diet plan from the diff diet plans available on net. Did a lot of research and landed with a plan for him on 15th April.(Well this is what most of the people who have access to internet and are fat do !)

He started the diet plan on 16th morning. Yes, the Diet Plan looked boring and Playing Tennis everyday wasn’t easy. The only thing that kept him going was what weighing machine showed him, and how well he has been able to control his eating habit. All this because he used to track what he eat and the exercise that he used to do in an Excel Sheet. (For details read this.)

And the Result : He lost 11 Kgs in 45 Days !!!
Good, right ?

Not even a month down the line Namit gained back the entire weight :(

After a doctor consultation he figured out his metabolism was off balance and it would take another month for him to get his metabolism back (ie. stop gaining weight)

Looking around the team realized, there is a large number of people in this world who have the same problem. Why not use the good parts of this instance from Namit’s Life and help all these people achieve their fitness goals.

Thus, LifeMojo was born…

( Namit is consulting a Nutritionist now and yes results are not as fast as they were but are sustainable, and the effort is low on his part as well ;) )
