New Feature: Know more about Food Items and Activities

May 22nd, 2009

A lot of our users have given us the feedback that they want to see more details about the Food Items than just the calories. So we went ahead and added individual pages for every food item and activity.

Now to know more about any food item, when you look up for the item in our Nutritional Value search, you can click the names on the food items or activity to know more details about that item.

On the Food Item / Activity Details page you can find out

  • the details of other nutrients in the food item
  • how to burn equivalent amount of calories (if it is a food item description page)
  • the calories that you burn during an activity is equivalent to eating what amount of a few food items (if it is a activity description page)
  • related articles
  • related health tips
  • related food items or activities

We hope these description pages help you know more about your favorite food items and activities.

New Feature: Map your workouts

May 8th, 2009

At times it is tough to figure out the distance you ran, rode or walked, at times you want to log where you ran either for yourself or to share it with others. You can do all this on LifeMojo now :)

How do I do this?

When you track your runs, rides and walks on LifeMojo, you can specify a Route for it by clicking “Pick from Map”. It shows a list of public routes that LifeMojo users have created. You can either use one of them or create a route of your own.

How to use a Public Route?

By default the map opens the city that you have specified in your “Profile and Settings” and if you want, you can always make the map to point to another city by just typing the name of the city at “Jump to“ and clicking on Go.

It displays all the Public Routes on the map at the desired locality. You can click on a route or the marker that displays the total route length to select the route. Once you are done, it will ask you to specify if you want to save the selected route to your Routes and if you want to show this route to public.

How to create a new Route?

Once the map is open, click on “Draw a route” and start clicking on the map to draw your route.

We realized that it is tough to create a route when you are trying to draw a route along a turning / twisted road, so we try and auto route along the road on the map for you. To turn this Auto Routing ON mark the “Follow Roads” ON and it will automatically start creating your route along the nearest road.

Once you are done, it will ask you to specify a Route Name (if you created a route), if you want to save the selected route to your Routes and if you want to show this route to public.

What is “Save it to My Routes” and “Show it to Public”?

You can always view your routes under myMojo -> “My Routes”. You can view details and remove routes from here. If you select “Save it to My Routes”, the route gets added to your Routes and start appearing in drop down when you track, so that you can use them later.

If you do not want to share the details of your runs or if you do not want to share the route that you just created with people, you can uncheck this option to protect your privacy.

What are these Numbers that keep appearing on my route?

The Numbers that keep appearing along your route as you create it are distance markers. They indicate the distance from the starting point along your route.

How are Red and Blue Routes different?

When viewing public routes, all the routes that you have added to your routes are displayed in Red color and all the other public routes are in Blue color.

Download what you track as Excel

April 3rd, 2009

You can now download whatever you track on LifeMojo as an excel file. A few days back couple of our users wanted to keep all that they tracked on LifeMojo as an offline file with them as well (for some personal use), so we did it for them.

What can I download?

You can download everything that you tracked – your diet, running, cycling, walking, strength training and other activities.

At present you can download all this data for one month at a time, please do let us know if you want it for a longer period at a stretch, and we would change it.

How do I download?

On every tracking page you would see a on the top right, just above the calendar. Click that and select the date range for which you want to download the data.

Time Zone, Preferences and a lot of new Food Items

April 3rd, 2009

Few of our users from US wrote to us, complaining that we do not have US Food Items on LifeMojo. We interacted with a couple of them and we got to know that although there are a lot of websites which allow them to track their daily food intake and activities, they love the simplicity of LifeMojo and would love to track their lifestyle here. :)

We recently added a lot of food items (close to 8000) on LifeMojo and soon realized the simplicity of auto complete while tracking food items was getting lost. This was because of the wide variety of food items available in US. So we added Food Preferences. Since majority of our users till now are Indians, we have kept the default Food Preference as Indian.

Similar to the food items, our users wanted to specify the default units that they enter their weight, running distance, measured height etc. in. So we added the preferences for them as well. The default preferences are set aptly for an Indian users, but you can always change the preferences by either going to “Profile & Settings” -> or by clicking on the links just below your profile completeness progress bar on myMojo.

You can also specify your Food Preferences while doing a calories search on GTalk or GMail chat. The food preferences on GTalk are by default set to Indian, you can change it by sending international as a chat message or switch back to indian by sending indian as a chat message.

We added Time Zone preferences along with these preferences as well, which was kind of long due form our side.

New Features - Running, Cycling and Strength Training

March 17th, 2009

We have been working on a lot of exciting things that you guys suggested, and today we launched a few of them:

  1. You don’t have a lot of activities on LifeMojo :(

Now we do! A lot of people searched for a lot of activities and LifeMojo didn’t have the calories for them, now it does! We have recently added close to 1000 activities on LifeMojo :)

We also added a lot of Strength Training activities recently and modified the way activities used to be tracked on LifeMojo.

  2. Tell me the calorie burnt for Running at speeds apart from 8 and 12 km/hr!

LifeMojo used to have calories burnt for a few limited set of speeds, and used to ask just the duration to calculate the calories burnt. Now it lets you enter your speed, duration, distance and some optional additional things like heart rate and altitude gained to calculate the amount of calories you burnt. And that’s not it, a 95 Kg guy would obviously burn more calories than a 75 Kg guy even if they are running at the same speed :) So the calorie burnt on LifeMojo is now dependant on your BMR.

And we added the similar calorie calculation for walking and cycling too… :)

  3. I am a runner and I have goals apart from weight loss / gain!

Now you can set your Running, Cycling, Walking, Strength Training and Weight Management (Loss and Gain) goals on LifeMojo.

Click on the image below to see how.

We also added a quick view of your progress for different goals to your myMojo, my Journey and Tracking pages.

Thanks a ton for your feedback and for keeping us on our toes ;) We love that you suggest these great things and we are eagerly waiting for more :)
